Fight through the US and EU
Advocating in Europe for Greater Transparency in Russian Business
The Center for Business Transparency and Countering Corporate Raids in Russia advocates for the elimination of reiderstvo, or individuals and organizations using dirty tricks, intimidation and force to seize businesses without compensation.
Advocacy involves communicating with politicians, academics, other influentials, journalists and the public inside and outside Russia, where thousands of cases of reiderstvo occur each year. The communication includes letters, emails, presentations and face-to-face meetings.
Securing Support in Europe for Raided Russian Businesses
An important center activity is trying to help victims of reiderstvo get their businesses back. We do this by talking with politicians and other leaders who could bring their influence to bear on a case.
And we file lawsuits against those who illegally seized businesses. Because some victims of reiderstvo are Russian businesses and some are foreign companies, we talk with influentials in Europe, the United States and the European Union. We also file lawsuits in Russia, the United States and Europe.
Spreading the Word in Europe About Raids
One of the key steps in addressing a harmful practice is letting people know what it is and how much damage it causes.
Our center works with journalists and academics to let the public know about reiderstvo, particularly its scope, the kinds of threats and violence its perpetrators use, and the kind of damage it does to the business world and society at large. We also talk with politicians, government officials and other influentials about reiderstvo.
And we hold conferences, seminars, symposiums and other events to spread the word and seek solutions to it.
