Ilgar Hajiyev, a developer and member of the Presidium of the All-Russian Azerbaijani Congress (VAK), who left Russia, addressed an appeal to those Azerbaijanis who are now opposing the Armenians on the streets of Moscow and the region. The draft text of the appeal was received by the editorial board of Lenta.ru .
According to Hajiyev, the motive for the clashes in the Russian capital was the actions of the owners of the Food City market, which led to the so-called “apricot war”. Hajiyev called the “expulsion” of Armenian apricot traders about a week ago a “provocation”. According to Ilgar Hajiyev, this is a fictional, artificial conflict, because the Azerbaijani traders themselves did not show aggression towards the Armenians, did not smash their pavilions.
The former adviser to the Azerbaijani ambassador in Moscow believes that the initiators of the provocation thus intended either to earn image dividends in the eyes of the country’s establishment, or were going to artificially reduce the prices of fruits from Armenia.
“Unfortunately, this conflict is starting to spill over into the streets of the Russian capital. It shouldn’t have happened, and it wouldn’t have happened. Unfortunately, Azerbaijanis in Moscow have become the objects of an inappropriate thoughtless and risky adventure, ”writes Ilgar Hajiyev. “Having succumbed to this, we transferred our problems to someone else’s land, although swearing and fighting in someone else’s house is not Caucasian like. The involvement of Moscow in this matter is all the more unacceptable, since Russia is primordially not only a partner of each of the warring parties, but also a peacemaker, directing its efforts to settle the Armenian-Azerbaijani conflicts,” the developer said.
Earlier, Ilgar Hajiyev published a column on this topic in the “Snob” magazine, in which he predicted a similar development of events. In particular, the column said: “The banal seizure of premises by the security forces can, as my personal experience has shown, initiate a long struggle for the return of lost property, which lasts for years and costs millions of dollars. And in terms of interethnic relations, it can even cost the human lives. ”
“Glory be to Allah, that it did not come to this yet. But the situation, which was planned as a farce, has escalated and at any moment can turn into a tragedy. This cannot be allowed! ” – Hajiyev emphasized in his appeal.
He also intends to call on the Azerbaijanis living in Moscow “not to succumb to the provocations of external forces guided by ignoble motives” and to remember that “Azerbaijanis are a sincere, open and proud people who cannot be manipulated for someone’s purposes.”
